Title: WTB: DAC
Post by: OldiesButGoodies on May 13, 2012, 08:46:14 PM
Looking for a DAC - nothing too spectacular - just need to be able to get the Spotify feed and HDTracks into my amp using USB or Toslink. PM me if you have something for sale...

If I don't hear anything may ge this:

It is pro equipment, but the gent that is selling the Classe pre in the list successfully replaced it with this (controlled via firewire by a Mac) and is pretty happy - sounds good too.

I have one of these on pre-order:

Here is the blog of the guy who designed it:

He is all about objective testing and designed this little dac to be audibly transparent using the Benchmark Dac 1 as a reference. It looks pretty promising.

The emotiva dac is on sale now because they're getting ready for a new model but this one is suppose to be pretty good for the monies.

The Emotiva dac is a great buy for the money based on what I've read.  Just don't use it as a volume control if you don't have to because that compromises the sound quality.  It has to be set to maximum volume to sound the best.

Thanks all...  Ended up ordering an Emotiva DAC.  Will report after I get it later this week.

Cheers,

I considered the objective but he is still a few weeks away at least from delivery and I am thirsty for Spotify and iTunes, so ordered the Emotiva with two day  delivery.    :P

I'm glad you went with the emotiva because now we can bring them to the shop sometime and compare. I haven't heard any usb dacs before but I did a lot a research so I'm curious to see how they will compare.  8)

Sounds good...  need to give it time and listen to most of the music I am accustomed to before judging.  I am keeping it though,  for the price you cannot beat it sound plus functionality.
