What it is: A small monitor speaker assembled locally at Galaxie Electronics, adjacent to the awesome Jerry's Records. It is called the Galaxie 600.
What made it interesting to me: It makes good sound, images very well. You ought to drop by and give it a listen if you have a spare second. According to the person I spoke to, a local retired carpenter dropped by asking for work and the owner suggested he try to copy the enclosure of a Paradigm monitor he had handy. He did. Galaxie mated the more robust enclosures (real vs pressed wood) with Paradigm drivers and and a cross over and he sound exceeded expectations; certainly sounded better than the original Paradigm box.
So now you can order these in two sizes - the 600 (which I auditioned, 6.5" woof) and the larger 800 with a 8" woofer (the larger ones reminded me of the seventies KLH line - very retro). You can chose finish - the carpenter will do it to order. The price is reasonable at $125/pair.
