Title: Galaxie 600 Monitors - Galaxie Electronics
Post by: OldiesButGoodies on March 31, 2013, 04:33:13 PM
What it is:  A small monitor speaker assembled locally at Galaxie Electronics, adjacent to the awesome Jerry's Records.  It is called the Galaxie 600.

What made it interesting to me:  It makes good sound,  images very well.  You ought to drop by and give it a listen if you have a spare second.  According to the person I spoke to,  a local retired carpenter dropped by asking for work and the owner suggested he try to copy the enclosure of a Paradigm monitor he had handy.  He did.  Galaxie mated the more robust enclosures (real vs pressed wood) with Paradigm drivers and and a cross over and he sound exceeded expectations; certainly sounded better than the original Paradigm box.

So now you can order these in two sizes - the 600 (which I auditioned,  6.5" woof) and the larger 800 with a 8" woofer (the larger ones reminded me of the seventies KLH line - very retro).  You can chose finish - the carpenter will do it to order.  The price is reasonable at $125/pair.

Some pics of the 600 below:

And this is the larger 800 (carpenter needs to work on the speaker driver cut-out accuracy):
