Title: Greetings from papabearjew
Post by: papabearjew on April 09, 2013, 07:06:32 PM
Hi all. I'm new here and a fairly new customer of VH. My first deal was getting my TEAC A1230 repaired. I bought it new on February 22, 1972...my senior year of high school. Lots of recording done with it through college and on. Other than a hand full of Scotch and Ampex tapes my recordings still sound great. Next up bearjew bought me a Pioneer CD "jukebox" from Tom. I much prefer analog but this device holds almost all of my CDs which is very convenient as I have some limits on moving around a lot. Within the last few weeks I took delivery on an awesome Marantz SC-80 preamp modified by Tom. It is one of the few preamps out there that had the flexibility I wanted including a remote. And about a week ago I took delivery on a Phase Linear 400 power amp modified by bearjew at VH. This stuff really kicks butt. I also just bought a Grado Gold1 cartridge from Tom and am extremely pleased with its sound. I have been extremely pleased with my dealings and purchases from Vintage Hifi and hope to remain a customer for many years to come.

Brad

Welcome to the best website in Pittsburgh!

Is the SC-80 black or champagne?    Very nice looking unit either way,  heard it sounds as good as it looks.

Greetings Brad!

Thanks for the nice introduction.  I am glad to see that you have some good taste in equipment and enjoy the sound of analog music.  We all have digital, but analog is special.  Thanks for joining the Forum!

Thanks everyone for your replies. I couldn't be prouder than to be Steve's father (most of the time LOL).  Pepe...my SC-80 is the champagne color. Quite sweet looking and even better sounding, especially since Tom performed his magic on it.

Thanks,
Brad
