Title: Nakamichi MR-1 and CR-1a
Post by: OldiesButGoodies on October 19, 2013, 09:24:54 AM
Remember that collection of 21 cassette decks I bought some time back?  I am down to the last few decks (I have about 5) and thought I would post here for sale to a forum member if interested.  The MR-1 is a 3-head and I asking $150, including 1/4 to RCA adaptors.  The CR-1a goes for $50 (this is a gear driven, no idler deek,  low maintenance).  If interested let me know.  Will post on ePay on Sunday otherwise.

I also have two LX-3 that sound beautiful but PBJ and I agree are aesthetic design farts from the 80s.

Is there pizza at the shop tonight??

And now I also have a Nak bx-300 ready for action (a sexier version of the MR-1 for non- studio use).

Some of these are dual voltage,  so you can use them even if you move to Budapest, a nifty feature.

The LX3s have the bad ass original Nak transport that is a biatch to rebuild ( and they are rebuilt).

Removed the reel table motor from a gear-driven BX-1 and installed it on an otherwise-dead MR-1 that used idler.  Four hours of my life gone but the MR1 is back to life,  will give it a spot in the rack for a few months.

So I have been looking for a decent cassette deck..  To my surprise I found one at my work the other day down in the basement.  Its a Nakamichi Cr1a I believe.  Im gonna ask if i can have it today.   Do you think it sitting there for so long/its age will more thank likely mean it has some problems?  Really hoping I get it

RocknRoll, it might need a new belt or something, but it's a good deck, so it's worth saving.

cool so im assuming parts are still available.  Ok ill try an get it today.  The maintenance guy said someone left it in an apt (i rent apts for a living) and had been sitting this shelf for over 10 years so... it will be pretty lame if we wont let me take it.

I have parts for the Cr1 if you need any and be happy to calibrate azimuth for you if needed.  Papabear and I both have CR1s and CR2s,  good solid decks and all I have seen use the gear mechanism to motivate the reel tables instead of the dreaded idler tire from hell.  You may need to replace the belts. The CR-1A is a decent 2 head deck. I don't have a CR-2A also though, I have a CR-3A. Same series but uses 3 heads allowing off the tape monitoring. I use mine basically for playing/testing suspect tapes.

PBJ - > cassette bourgeoisie,  the CR1 is his tester unit,  only the good cassettes get to dance with his Tascam 122 mkii
