I am rediscovering all over again, my vast collection of downloaded music.
These Polk SDA'2b studio's (I think) are turning out to be quite enjoyable.
I have yet again, found the emotion that was lost with my sony SS-TL6's. They sounded very nice, but I was always left hanging; wanting more. With enough power and available base on hand to satisfy a small club, db's were used instead to provide that emotion.
Emphasizing a silky lower midrange, These Polks provide a soundstage that places you not in front of the performers, but them all around you. It's as though you are right on the stage itself, facing them.
It's quite unique and very easy on the ears. very little fatigue.
Too revealing were the Sony's, so less then perfect recordings were ousted in place of ones that were near perfect for the systems boundaries.
The Polks are nowhere near as revealing, so. crappy 128 files have a place yet again as when they were first created.
Every speaker I have ever owned has sounded way better then my ex Bose 901's, but, until these elderly Polk cabs came along, none have raised more of an emotional response from myself and others.
Just another brief review.
goodnight all.

Post a pic of your SDA's.

I enjoy reading your narrative of your journey. It is always so descriptive and passionate. Cheers!

Good new gear always seems to up the ante. Next come electronics and front end upgrades. Enjoy!

Quit busting my balls, Pics will be taken this weekend. My digital camera crapped out, and I only have a stupid phone.

That is very cool to change part of your system and have it open up

my listening room is pretty small so there is not enough room for any scale
The cat is smallish and the subs are 12 in. velodynes. use that for a reference.
Enjoy.

I usually look for a nut cracker in the shot as my frame of reference.
:D

Sorry, F1 wasn't available for the shoot

Alright, pics!
Most 2B Studio versions were black laminate, but some were walnut laminate. At this point a positive ID will require removing one of the mid-drivers. The 2A's use MW6510's while the 2B's use one MW6503 and one MW6511. If you have 2A's with a pin/blade SDA cable, you have a rare set of speakers.
Now, I have to bust your balls. What are the speakers sitting in, a shelving unit? Whatever it is, get those speakers out of them. They should be on the floor, spiked. 6 to 8 feet apart, 5 to 6 inches from the back wall with at least 3 feet from the side walls.

I agree with F1. I noticed an improvement when I ditched the particleboard risers that came with my SDA-1C's and spiked them. They seemed more responsive than just sitting on the stupid furniture glide type rests that came with them.

I'm gonna fart around tomorrow with different configurations.
Being that my room is quite small, I've noticed that when i move them closer to the wall, I loose much of the direct stereo info, in favor of too much SDA effect. So I'm thinking I may have to widen them a bit to compensate.
Oh good, I get to pontificate some more, in the form of yet another useless brief review.
Good night for now,
Andrew
