I'm wondering if I can run a sub from the 2nd pre-outs on the Carver 4000t preamp . Or even better has anyone already tried this?
-
Yes you can do that. I do that with my C1.

Do you plan on running your main speakers full range once the sub is hooked up? If you want to take advantage of the sub's crossover you could use the high level speaker inputs and outputs on the sub. That way your main speakers aren't pushing bass that the sub is taking care of.

Yeah it would be nice to use the crossover but i'd rather not use two runs of speaker wire, i'm running low on that and I already have a long signal chain going from source to preamp and to amp then speakers.
I'm guessing it might not sound bad if I just let the speakers and the sub play the same bass?

No, it won't sound bad at all. Just dial up the settings to supplement where the speakers are lacking but be careful not to over do it. You don't want to BOOM at 60hz but barely hear anything at 40hz.
