Title: Carver C4000 preamp
Post by: gdv on June 23, 2010, 04:41:38 PM
Did anyone of you ever own this unit?  I owned it years back, and was disappointed with sonic holography...  Just curious?  I have since sold the unit...

Comments...  Or is this one those Carver units Tom spoke of (not being the right one!) :D :D

I love it.  It's the right one for me.   :D  Excellent phono channel and a lot of great features.  A good amount of tweaks like being able to remove tape hiss when playing my reel to reel.  I use the sonic holography the majority of the time but there's times when I turn it off, normally when playing something live or very fast/heavy.

I also still have one and love it. Imagine that!!!  It has a phenominal phono section.
While talking to Bob about the holography circuit, he stated that the C-1 and C-9 are the best examples. He was never able to get it to sound perfect in the other Carver units that employ it, even though it is the same circuitry. Hmmm...

It's a nice unit with all the bells and whistles. A switch for just about everything. OCCD is right, the phono section is the standout feature.
