Title: big upgrade
Post by: mikey813 on August 17, 2010, 08:37:58 PM
My system now consist of a Technics SE-A808 power amp, Onkyo M-5000 power amp, Yamaha MVS-1 passive pre, Technics SL-PD807 CD Player, Technics SH-R808 remote control unit, TDC speakers, and Pioneer CS-R500s. I got the Yamaha pre's volume running to the input of the remote control unit then the outputs of the remote control unit running to the volume in of the yamaha pre. Then I have the volume outs running to both amps. I got the Little Technics powering the TDC, and the Onkyo powering the pioneers. The Technics Power amp is 45 wpc @ 8 ohms. The Onkyo is 105 wpc @ 8 ohms. It sounds amazing. The Technics power amp has great highs and decent lows compared to the Onkyo. The Onkyo has better bass. So they mix quite well. Here are some pics the first one is the speakers, The second one is the amps and pre (from top to bottom Technics SE-A808, Technics SH-R808, Yamaha MVS-1, and Onkyo M-5000.) The third pic is of the Technics CD Player. The last pic is the inside of the Technics SE-A808. Note: the last pic is not mine. Please tell me what you think.

You might have the best bang-for-the-buck system on Earth little man.

Is that Technics a true Dual Mono, with the two transformers?

Thanks Guys.
I think everybody really missed the boat on the Technics SE-A808. My dad had it listed for $40.00 and nobody really wanted it.

As far as I know it is not dual mono. I think the just did not have enough height to get in just one transformer so they had to use two.

I like the idea of a passive preamp.  You seem to fool around like I do and put good sound as your priority.

Thanks OconeeOrange. I try my best to upgrade the sound any chance I get. Luckily I have been upgrading instead of downgrading on my sells and trades.
Thanks again,

I like the diversity of equipment and how you have combined it to make it work. What is the remote control unit you mention?

Thanks OldiesButGoodies. The remote control unit is for the Technics system. You put it in between the pre-amp and the amp and you can control the volume. It is pretty cool for older electronics. I think you can also run it as a tape monitor since it has ins and outs but I am not sure.
