Title: My Speaker Upgrade
Post by: BrianT on October 24, 2010, 12:42:34 PM
It all stared at Carverfest 10 when I saw James AL 6’s and liked them. :D So James arranged for me to audition at our cabin with my gear.
At the end of Carverfest, I told him I would be very interested in a set if they came in at a certain price point.

About 2 weeks ago, James got hold of me and told me he was going to be building a few sets of AL’s did I still want a pair. The pricing was a little higher than my price point, but I said yes.

A couple of days later, I told Pat what I was doing, she made no real comment.  A few days later over supper, Pat say’s to me, by time you pay Dollar Exchange, Shipping, Duty and Taxes you are going to be around $5000.00 for the AL 6’s

If we are going to spend that amount of money, why don’t you spend 2/3 thousand more and pick up the speakers you have always wanted.
B&W 802D’s (got to love this girl).  :-* :-* :-*

So last weekend, I started looking around, found a set on Audiogon, in
Clifton Park, NY. (13hr round trip). So I made an offer, A few Emails later we had agreed on a price. They are used, 4 years old with a very tiny chip on the Marlin Mid range housing. Working perfect.

I drove down on Saturday and picked them up. Left home at 10:15am and returned at 1:10pm. Total cost just shy of $8000.00 cnd. In Canada they list for $16000.cnd

Dude, I have heard those.

Congratulations on purchasing last last pair of speakers you ever need.

I don't know what I envy more, the fact you have those speakers or have a girl like that as wife.

I do think that they will be the last speakers I do purchase.

Tom & Tom have both meet my wife Pat (we all shared a cabin at CF10), and they think she's cool.

You call that an upgrade?

Congrats. I'm jealous. As Marty McFly said: "Some day Jennifer, some day."
