Yeah this sounds like a dare or challenge for something you already found.  Were a rich FLA couple selling their illegal Russian maid that only knows the english phrase "sucky sucky"?  You would win.

We're gonna have some stuff to sell...Honestly I'd love to have an electronics garage sale right here!  We went through a lot of stuff last night (There is so much more to be gone through) as we were getting yet another Expedit for records placed.

If we were to do such a thing, would any of you be willing to offer a hand?  Anders is kinda on his own around here as far as lifting and moving stuff around.  Our first thought was to bring some stuff to the shop, but it's getting a little full there.

How about a garage sale at the shop???????.  Anything anyone brings and does not sell, goes back home.  Seller must be present, no prior drop-offs, etc.

Post by: Bunni on April 16, 2012, 07:09:42 PM
That's a good idea too...but again, hauling stuff out of here isn't so easy.  You haven't seen the amount of stuff lol.

I don't know anything about the tennis racket market but that sure sounds like a score.

The racquet new a couple of years ago was in the $100-$150 range new. It looks like it saw very little usage.

This weeks moving sale find.  The motor needs a cap, but the idlers are in good shape and the mechanical functions work.  A tone arm upgrade is in order.  Anyone have any suggestions that won't break the bank?

The 'table is a Rec-O-Kut Rondine JR model L 34.  Idler driven, the motor looks like it could run a washing machine.  It uses separate idlers for 33 & 45 rpm, via a very simple, fool proof lever to change speeds. From what I have learned it compares to the Thorens TD 124 and Girrard 301, just never became as well known.  There are a number of mods discussed on AK and other sites, if I can find time to tinker with it.  While it cleaned up nicely, For now it needs a motor cap to get it running

This past weekend I found a minty Apple Time Capsule (500 gig), which I'll hopefully be using as a wireless music server. $50
I also found a really great condition iPod Nano 5th gen 16 gig, with brand new Apple head phones and charger. $10

FYI, the Regent Square community yard sale is this Saturday. Info here http://www.regentsquare-rsca.org/NewYSFAQ.htm (http://www.regentsquare-rsca.org/NewYSFAQ.htm)

I would never sell a time capsule unless I knew for sure all the data was erased and overwritten with something else... Nevertheless 50 bucks for an Apple time capsule is decent pricing.

I found a Lafayette LA-224A Stereophonic Amplifier yesterday in Regent Square. Pretty clean cosmetically, a tad dusty inside. Now I just need to see if it works. I'd post pictures but I can't figure out how to attach.

I found the following this morning at a house sale in Squirrel Hill

KLH Model 8 Tube Radio w/matching speaker. A couple of Amperex tubes in there.
Pioneer SX-535 receiver
Sanyo TP-600 SA turntable w/cover intact.
A pair of metal Target Audio speakers stands. (http://www.targethifi.co.uk/speaker_stands.html (http://www.targethifi.co.uk/speaker_stands.html))

Five pieces of vinyl: All

Bonnie Raitt "Streetlights"
Keith Jarrett "The Koln Concert"
B.B. King "The Incredible Soul of B.B. King"
Steely Dan "Katy Lied"
Graham Nash/David Crosby "Graham Nash/David Crosby"

Anybody know of any radio collectors who might want to take a look at the KLH? More business for the shop I'm sure.

I'll update as to working condition of TT & Receiver.

I plan on bringing it up to you guys to make sure it's working properly, also is that TT worth repairing? cosmetically it's in great shape.

TT not working
Pioneer SX-535 is working, lights etc; it could probably use an internal go over/cleaning.

Tom & Anders I'll be seeing you guys after the New Year.

I know that this hasn't been posted in for a while, so here it goes.  Community wide garage sale yesterday.  Major score and then some. (I will post some pics once I find my camera!)

1.) Polk Monitor 12's Series 2 - Fully funcional, sound great - Cosmetically - not terrible.  Fair at best - some paint on black laminate, risers have chipped ends (starting to break apart - not a lot yet, but will eventually need replacing) a couple of chips in the rear upper corners (relatively small - about the size of my thumb or so) - grille frames are broken in a couple of places (but still functional) and obviously a couple of small holes in the grille cloth (not noticeable from a couple of feet away).  $40.00 - whoo whoo!!  These have found their way into the man cave in place of the Klipsch Heresy II's which are now back in the bedroom!

2.) MSB Tech DAC Link III - trying to determine which version it is, has one upgrade as it has the Option switch on the back - no XLR input - so I don't think it is the full Nelson!!! (J/K)-needs wall wart (has special connector to wall wart - emailed MSB Tech). - combined this with two other items - total of $50.00 (items 2 through 5)

3.) Kenwood KR-820 receiver - just a cheapo receiver to throw on the back porch during the summer with the cheapo Optimus garage sale speakers we bought last year for $15. (This way if the heat or cold gets to them (or the punk ass neighborhood kids) I won't give a shit!

4.) Tandberg 3300X reel to reel - came with replacement belts.  Powers on, and when I started, the take up reel would spin, fast forward, play, and the counter worked.  However, the pads on the feed reel were not present (dissolved).  Put on the new belt and went to the craft store.  I got some cork at the craft store fashioned my own.  When I got back from the craft store I made my felt clutch pads and etc, however, now the motor won't turn.  It was unplugged when I left, so I don't think it could have shorted, but hey, who knows.  (This may become a donor unit to someone that has one.)  Also the little plastic housing that holds the reel clip (screws onto the end of the hub spindle) must have been cracked, because when I went to put the empty maxell reel on it, it popped off in pieces.  It may find its way to the shop if I ever get down there this year.  We'll see.

5.) Technic SL-D20 turntable.  Needs new P-mount cartridge, power cord, and RCA cables (these just plug into the back, so I just have to make an ground connector for it.

I think in all, I did fairly well.  I know some of the stuff  may not be ideal.  Even though some items are missing pieces, i.e. the MSB, if I can hook up with the missing links, can be a not so bad day if you ask me.  All for under a "C" note.

This week at the thrifts I found a pair of JBL 3 way 12" Best Buy era speakers for $10.   Need foam but the cabinets are very sound.   I also got a Cambridge Audio D300 Special Edition CD player for $5.   May repaint the top if it doesn't clean up, but seems to be 100% functional.

I stopped by an estate sale early Saturday and grabbed a Sanyo TT and a Cybernet brand integrated amp and tuner.   Also met a gentleman who I assume is the fellow from Irwin who has loads of tubes listed on Ebay (00feedman) .

Amp volume is a little scratchy when turning but plays clean so this should work in the garage while I get the Sansui amp's speaker inputs replaced.

@ Resident    Yes, the Cybernet is pretty solid.  I have it on the deck setup and listening to 'Dinks Song" right now.  Plenty load for the neighbors, set at around 9 o'clock and connected to some Minumus 25s that I picked up Thursday at the GW

Such a good day at the thrift today. Not really a major score in terms of value, but I was very excited about it. There were five bluegrass records all in excellent condition. I was especially excited about the Alison Krauss. Then I pulled out the vinyl to check the condition. I thought to myself it can’t be but it was. A secret Quiex pressing. I put it back in the jacket and flipped it over. Then I got really excited. Autographed.

As I looked up from the autograph, I saw a little old lady probably between 75 and 80 years old walk up to my cart and pick up the record I was second most excited about. Mac Martin and the Dixie Travelers. She stood there gazing at the cover. I turned to her and she started to tell me about her experiences with the band. She said that her and her girlfriend used to go and see them all the time. Then she said her girlfriend would be so excited to see this record except that she’s in a home now because she has Alzheimer’s . She choked up a little at that point. I asked her if she had a turntable and she said yes. Then she went on to tell me another story about her and her friend going to a show. When she finished that story I asked her if she wanted the record. She asked me how much I wanted for it. I told her no I’m not looking to sell it to you, I think you should have it. I told her I was excited to find it but I thought it would mean more to her. She threw her arms around me and kissed me on the cheek. It made both of our days .She was so excited. What a perfect 15 minutes at the thrift.

Which Alison Krauss lp did you find?

Too Late to Cry.   Her first on a major (Rounder).

Without the autograph or Quiex it is a $40 album.   I think I would ask a C for it if I were tempted to sell, but I don't think it is going anywhere any time soon.   I have a thing for translucent (not colored) vinyl.

I picked up a nice bunch of jazz records at a local thrift.  They are all probably reissues from the 80s, in mint condition, still in shrink wrap.
Complete Fats Waller vol 2. (two LP on Bluebird)
An evening with Louis Armstrong and his All stars (2 LP on GNP Crescendo)
King Oliver New York sessions 1929-30 (Bluebird)
Fletcher Henderson.  Hocus Pocus.  (Bluebird)
Giants 3 (Giants of Jazz).  A couple cuts each by Duke, Pops and Lady Day
Barrelhouse Boogie. (Bluebird).

While these are No Noise/digitally remastered LPs and not audiophile quality,  they are quite listenable.  I can't complain for five bucks.....

On my way to an estate sale in Pleasant Hills yesterday  I saw a sign advertising a neighborhood yard sale in West Mifflin.  There were only two households participating and no records out.  I asked if they had any records and the wife sent her husband to the garage.  He brought out a full box on a dolly and I picked out about 30.  Among them
Duane Allman - Anthology Vol 2
Bruce Nebraska/Born in USA/Born to Run
Dylan  Greatest Hits Vol 2
Fleetwood Mac  S/T
Little Steven Voice of America
Beatles  Love Songs/Rubber Soul/Introducing (VJ Mono)/Beatles '65Early Beatles
Marvin Gaye Greatest Hits
Allman Bros Eat a Peach
L Skynrd  First & Last
Stones  Goats Head Soup/Sticky Fingers zipper cover
Culture Club Kissing to Be Clever
and another dozen or so.

I'm glad I stopped
