Title: a youngish "Semi-Vintage" PIONEER fan
Post by: Tasuke on June 01, 2013, 11:21:56 PM

hi guys. i'm 31, and a "Semi-Vintage" PIONEER Hi-Fi/A/V fan since 1999/2001ish.

i've been around the block, Hi-Fi forum-wise, since around 2007-ish. a former AUDIOKARMA member,
TAPEHEADS.COM member, one-time-member of the now-defunct SOUND THINKING.COM,
and a current member of STEVE HOFFMAN MUSIC FORUMS since 2008.

i've been a PIONEER-holic for the last 10 years, with a focus on late-1980's/early 90's STANDARD LINE and REFERENCE/ELITE.

i've had to wait for over five years worth of e-browsing at semi-vintage/vintage PIO gear, and long-since compile
a laundry list of chosen components that i would want in a personal dream system,
before i was finally able to begin acquiring said gear online starting back around 2007ish.

years later, i finally have like 80% of what i ideally desire, with a few compromises, of course;

indeed! i nearly nabbed a pair of 1990 TOTL PIO STANDARD LINE S-T500 for like $190.
i understand they were designed by the TAD division, though not a TAD product per se...

I've always wanted to try these.

They are an Andrew Jones design.

I have one TDK "MA" and a Maxell "MX" tape that I am holding onto for the right material to record to. They are very hard to come by unless you are willing to lose a limb on ePay for them.

Big fan of the Pioneer PD65 CD player.   I made a huge mistake selling mine a few years ago.
The turntable platter system was brilliant. The internal DACs were very very nice. The MSB DAC
that I added later really didnt do too much.  At least I dont think I pick one or the other thats how good
the PD65 DACS were.
