Title: My most recent tube console find
Post by: Sir Thrift-a-Lot on September 29, 2013, 01:08:35 AM
$10 at Goodwill.   After Scott did my Leaks (way to special a system for me to learn on) I started looking for one I could recap myself.   I may have found a worthy contender here.   Thoughts?

Shit, my car doesn't have as many gauges as that turntable Haha. It looks like a cool piece. I've always been a sucker for consoles though.

I'm not keeping the cabinet or the vinyl grinder.   Unsure about the tuner.

I have almost the same console.
I think mine is a VCR-16.
Its a Living Stereo console.
I'm keeping mine together and adding a multiplex for FM stereo and a phono stage for a MM cartridge.

If you part out that console I'll take the left over parts.

Anders, I have a Magnavox multiplexer if you're looking for one.

I wonder what is meant by "superheterodyne"?

Pretty cool console.  The fuzzy innards give me the willies!  Electronics should not have fuzzy innards (shutter)

Including the furniture?   Let me know and it is yours.

Is that the one you said I could try with the Leaks?   I was hoping to do that.

Almost everything I own had fuzzy insides when I got it.   I'll defuzz it, don't worry.

How about the 45 spindle?   If you need it I will happily give it to you, but if not, that item alone can more than pay for the console on eBay.   Do you know how it releases from the holder it is in?

I have no use for the wooden cabinet but I could use the turntable for parts as well as the speakers and tuner.
I think I have enough multiplex adapters for now thanks.

Okay, I'll take the table and the tweeters up to the shop.   I want to try to use the woofers with some Maggie horns that a friend gave me.   I'm not yet decided on the tuner.

Nice Find !!

I sold one of those to a coworker and 2yrs later still regret it.
Tom has that same model if i remember correctly,  he gets all glassy eyed when he talks about the quality of sound it produces.
Ample clean power.

Great Score...(IMHO)

Good luck and keep us posted on the progress
