This came out of discussions on the chatbox about what wattage everyone is using. I thought it would be interesting to see the differences as it compares to efficient and non-efficient speakers.

Marantz 2230 into Hereseys - 30 wpc
-
My current main rig is a Dynaco ST-35 (35W total, EL84 quad) into Klipsch Cornwalls at +/- 17.5 watts a channel. Enough power through 98.5/m efficiency speakers to drive me out of the room and make my old wood framed house shake with the bass if and when I so desire.
-
Emotiva xpa-200 @150watts, right now doing Polk RT35's with a Polk PSW10 (I think). They will be on the block come fall, and back to the Fourier 6's, unless a good deal shows it's face.

Pre: Terra Song SS-1
Amp: Llano Designs CA-300 Phoenix
Trans: Theta Data Basic
DAC: Melos Max3r (tube)
Speakers: Snell Type b
150-225 Class A wpc, give or take

I should mention that the WPC are soon to increase dramatically once I finish resto-modding the Velodyne that Jim gave me (thanks again Jim!). There are a few changes coming, all of which I will chronicle here.
-
But 30 watts have kept me more or less content for the last five years or so. I guess that is my point.
-
I'm bi-amping my Legacy's right now with 305's, which is 330watts @ 4ohms on the top, and a 2.0t which is doing 600watts @ 4ohms on the bottom.
-
1/2 to maybe 3/4 of a watt if I want to rock out... :(|)
-
I suppose a better title to this thread would be "How many watts are you capable of running?"

I suppose a better title to this thread would be "How many watts are you capable of running?"
LOL.... in that case I'm capable of running 100W mono!

Rotel RB-981 into Boston Acoustics VR-40s
130 sexy watts/ch

Eico hf-81, 18wpc
Fisher 400, 28wpc
Rogue Cronus, 55wpc

Magnavox 8800: 8 x 2 @ 4 Ohms
Onkyo M-504: 165 x 2 @ 8 Ohms
Magnavox 9300: 8 x 2 @ 4 Ohms
-
Into what ohm?
-
Thank you Kingman
I am running 800 watts per channel at 4 ohms, biamped. Sunfire 405 x 5
-
Magnavox 8800: 8 x 2 @ 4 Ohms
Onkyo M-504: 165 x 2 @ 8 Ohms
Magnavox 9300: 8 x 2 @ 4 Ohms
I should clarify a little, too.
The 8800 is driving an 8 ohm load, so I'm probably getting 4-5 watts out of it.
The 504 is driving a 6 ohm load, I believe Onkyo rates the 504 at 230 WPC @ 6 ohms.
The 9300 is driving an 8 ohm load, so I'm getting somewhere in the ballpark of 8 watts there. 2 watts into the Choruses is enough to drive you out of the room.

I live below 1 WPC with efficient speakers. But here's a list if I wanted to go crazy
AN Intergrated 300b SET 8 WPC - JBL bass bins and Jabo horn
AN Interstage Mono Blocks 300b PSE 20 WPC - Altec A5's
AN Interstage Mono Blocks 300b PSE 20 WPC - Altec A4's
AN Interstage Mono Blocks 300b PSE 20 WPC - EV Sentry IV bass bins Azura Horn Lowther PM4a driver
Carver Baby Black Beauty EL 84 20 WPC - Khorns
Sunfire 5 x 400 wpc - 3 Klipsch Lascalas ( fronts) Cornwalls ( surrounds)
Phase Linear 400 somewhere in Pennsylvania
I did get rid of a bunch of stuff and really tried to think this down some more...but it looks like it's going the other way again

Sunfire 5 x 400 wpc - 3 Klipsch Lascalas ( fronts) Cornwalls ( surrounds)
Now THAT'S a home theatre system...

I did get rid of a bunch of stuff
Obviously! :)
-
Well it depends....
305 wpc into one set of ALIII's
1200 wpc into the other set of ALIII's.
-
Well, I'm running a Carver M-500, which is 251WPC at 8 ohms, but I'm only running them on these little Polk Monitor 5jr.'s until my real speakers get here.
-
Capability: 1400 MAC watts in the stereo rig, at any resistance, any combination of frequencies, at .005% distortion 24/7.
Typical: about one watt/side, with occasional bursts to 100 or more, depending on program material-give or take
Home theater-800 MAC watts at 8 ohms over 5 channels
-
OK... 1200 per at 4 ohms in the main system, sub excluded, depends on the amp in my little bedroom setup. Currently 350 at 8 ohms.
-
250Wpc into 8 ohms
500Wpc into 4 ohms
1kWpc into 2 ohms
4kWpc into 0.5
Krell KSA-250 into 4 Ohm speakers.
-
Classe DR-25: 500 wpc into 4 ohms, Legacy Classics (92 dB sensitivity)
-
Pioneer SA-9100 , 60 WRMS into 8 ohms. Driving Tyler Acoustics Taylo Reference Monitors that are 88 Senstivity (dB 1W 1M)
-
Muse all FET power amp drives my Acoustat Spectra 1100's in my bedroom system with 100 watts per channel and it blows fuses if I push it.
-
Current my main stereo listening is a Marantz 2235b running MBquart Q1000s ( http://www.hifi-wiki.de/index.php/MB_Quart_1000 (http://www.hifi-wiki.de/index.php/MB_Quart_1000) ), they're 4ohm nominal, but I don't push it at all, never gets that warm. Secondary speakers are the Tannoy System 800 Studio Monitors, same amp. I've got bigger and badder, but no need. Hoping to find a console soon to de-tube and try that out.
When the subs kick on for HT, it's a Dayton Audio Titanic Mk3 being fed 2000w via BGW GTB pro-amp, crossed over via receiver @ 60hz. It's in an undersized sealed box but the low end is boosted to compensate for losses. It gets louder than my windows can handle without issue, so I haven't bothered to build a new box.
-
To be fair, my amp can only do 800 watts at 4 ohms for 2 seconds, then the power supply runs out of steam. But I think that was the genius of the design, as most music will not require full power for that long.

OBG-your point illustrates the issue with wattage ratings almost since the beginning of the hobby. There has never been a consistent standard, although disclosure of the measurement parameters has improved.
