Title: Bedroom system changed up
Post by: EmperorNorton on October 27, 2015, 08:25:36 AM
Swapped out the Parasound HCA-1000 for 2 NAD 214s.

The MMGs sound amazing with the preamp volume knob at 9 oclock.

Still have not moved the eliiptical though....

So the NADs outperform the Parasound (max SPL being excepted)?

Very nice!  I've owned a handful of NAD gear over the past few  decades.  Still have my NAD 1150 preamp.
I've always liked their stuff a lot. Very musical, effortless dynamics, and just fun.
Just remembered I still have an old NAD receiver.  It's downstairs and dont remember the model but its one of the best 20 w/ch I've heard (solid state).  Enjoy the setup...I'm sure it sounds great.

Truly hard to say of they 'outperform' them.  I just threw on a live David Lindley 'Official Bootleg" that is all acoustic and it sounded like he was in the room.  I didn't listen to that CD on the Parasound setup.  But it did seem we could play it at pretty high volume without it seeming 'loud'.   Obviously it would better to A/B them but we know how that goes. Maybe some time will free up when the weather gets colder....

I have always liked NAD gear and owned some in the past.  My question is just out of curiosity, since I know the NAD sound and can understand it as a reference.

Agreed, NAD is very underated and IMO sound really nice.  Some of the best bang for the buck gear out there.
