Title: Box of official vinyl from Taiwan or "F is for Fake"?
Post by: EmperorNorton on January 31, 2019, 03:04:42 PM
Found some vinyl a while back and am unsure of provenance.   These releases use official covers but not labels.   Reading about these online finds opinions ranging from 'official release" to counterfeits.    Any opinions from the gallery?

thanks

Discogs lists it as "unofficial" though I don't know how they got Wally Capitol stampers.   Can stampers be made from a piece of vinyl?

Looks like some are listed for sale on Discogs and other titles are blocked from sale.

Think it was about a year ago Discogs started banning certain sales. An album I bought from Discogs, I couldn’t sell there. Maybe a little time before that I recall reading about liming on a Facebook group. The GI presence in Asia led to mass counterfeiting fighting for all the GI money.

How does it sound?

How does it sound?   I meant to ask but forgot to.

They sound very good, especially after ultrasonic cleaning.  I think I have decent copies of several of these on 'official' releases and will compare.

They must be able to make a stamper from an existing record.   I can't figure any other way that they would get a Wally.
