Title: Howdy from the Queen City
Post by: marcjs on February 02, 2022, 07:27:36 AM
Hi y'all!

Newbie here from Race City USA (Mooresville NC), just north of Charlotte.

I stumbled across this site while seeking info on vintage equipment, and been lurking for a bit.  Finally decided to join as I am interested in a listing "in the Burgh".

I am vintage myself, so much of what is discussed on this site encompasses equipment I aspired to owning in my teens/early adulthood.  I have now amassed a sizeable collection of such equipment - ranging from Carver (currently just loudspeakers - Bob's first and also his last panels), Tandberg (receivers), Nakamichi (tape decks), Citation (amps), Heathkit (tube amp), RTR electrostatic tweeters, and much more.

I build my own loudspeakers - at the moment obsessed with ATC drivers.  I also build/repair tube amps (both hi-fi and guitar).

Some day I will have to have a fire-sale, or my wife will poison me!

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it!

-Marcel

Welcome Marcel.   I have an Ampeg Gemini VI that's sitting in my basement waiting for me to restore it.   Not currently functional but it was a buck at a yard sale so I figure it will be good to learn on.   Up until now I've only recapped RCA and Stromberg Carlson console pulls.   I had one of those little Maggotbox Se amps but sold it to someone who really wanted one.   I was intimidated about my hamfisted soldering in such a tight space anyway.

Hi Marcel,

Welcome.

I've been to Moorseville a few times, but not for 20 years or so. Back then I was a big Nascar fan and bet you know the exact building I visited in your town. I bet things have changed a bunch since I've been there. I love that part of the country, especially the Carolina blue sky. I used to know people over at the Petty compound, but lost contact over the years. I was in Kyle's office once with Richard, Kyle and Adam, about three months before Adam's accident. Richard was ribbin Adam for wearing a Harley shirt and not getting paid for it and Kyle was showing off a box of chocolates the got as a gift for buying an airplane.

Cars were my first passion, but they take up a lot of space and money! Not that audio is anything different.

Welcome, Marcel.  Ditto on the Tandberg receivers, and other continental European gear (Revox, B & O, etc).  Sold my Nakamichi decks, but still have a couple of Japanese units from the 1980s.

What types of music do you listen to?
