Title: 6DJ8?
Post by: sean283 on March 01, 2010, 09:40:04 AM
I picked up a Musical Fidelity X-10D tube buffer on eprey.

from what I have been able to uncover, it uses 2 6DJ8s.
Since I don't know what condition they tubes are in (especailly after being shipped)...
I figured I might pick up a new set.

I have a tube tester packed away at my parents house... somewhere.
I don't feel like looking for it at the moment.

I was looking at some NOS stuff and intrested in suggestions you guys might have.

maybe try a set of 7DJ8s for fun?

I've read 6DJ8s tend to have high microphonics.  So, you might want to look for tubes with low microphonics.

Tom probably has some tubes at the shop, I would try there first.

The place I use is Upscale Audio http://www.upscaleaudio.com (http://www.upscaleaudio.com)
I always have gotten honest and accurate advice from them. They even regularly talk me out of purchasing higher priced items. They always seem to know what I need when I tell them the ‘sound’ I'm looking for.

You may be able to use 6922's too, but you should check the user's manual for your buffer first.

Some other places I seen:

I would suggest looking at Jim McShane's website. The most honest tubemonger i have dealt with, and prices are reasonable.

I agree Jim's a good guy, but his web site tries my patience every time I visit it.  It is one long page.

It comes from MF with ECC88's, which are the same as 6DJ8's.

Tube World has a nice selection of hard to find tubes and provides excellent service.
