List your system / Replacement for excellent sub
« Last post by RRinChicago on February 09, 2023, 04:48:28 PM »
Hi all:

I'm new here.  What got me here is the failure of my Velodyne sub.  Equipment:   Marantz SR7015, NAD 2600As in mono, Infinity RS IIs and Velodyne HGS 10.  My 11 x 13 room is set up for a 5.1 surround system which is only used for video.  The room is carpeted, with drapes and furnished with soft textured furniture.  Up to the point where the small room size starts imposing limits on volume, it's an excellent sounding room/system. The HGS 10 is a perfect partner for the Infinitys.  Now it's dead.  For around $300 it appears i can have it repaired at EBC in New Jersey.  I'm hesitating because this is the second HGS sub to fail in two months and the first one (an HGS 12 in a different system) was not repairable by a local technician.  It seems many HGSs are at the end of their life and I am wondering if I should jump ship and try to find an alternative for reasonable money, or cross my fingers and have it repaired.  I can't really afford to go much over $600 and am willing to look at used.  I'd love to know if anyone has made a happy switch to another brand/model.

Repair / Help / Re: Technics SL1510 help

Thanks! Might have been that. Connected to my NAD 3020 the worked. The speed was way off but I cleaned the pots and now its running smooth! Although i dont understand how the pitch control works. There is no "click" in the middle and I saw someone on Youtube where the light is suppose to make it easier to know where its "right" but my light lights up but the reflections dont change when I turn the pitch control.   What could be wrong?

The only thing I can think is perhaps after you cleaned the pots the decorative knobs are just spinning on the pots rather than gripping and adjusting them?

General Discussion / Re: Why do you think this site never took off?

I don't think anyone wants to or has time to work on vintage stuff anymore. I still love it but don't have time for much anymore. I mostly work on my own stuff now but I will help where I can. My system just had some changes. I finally put some upgrades in my Linn LP12 so I'm using that turntable now as my best sounding table (Dual 731Q) is having bass feedback issues which my wife can't stand. Also I changed my preamp from my modified Audio Research SP6 to a mostly stock SP6B.

Repair / Help / Four track recorder with no signal from third channel
« Last post by Ty Rex on December 29, 2022, 06:35:32 PM »
I need some advice trouble-shooting an analog circuit on a four track cassette recorder. There is audio output from the cassette playback head but once the signal enters the PCB board it does not come back out like the other three channels. Mostly all I see on this PCB board are capacitors and resistors. I see no damaged or blown out components.

How do you trouble-shoot the components? ESR meter for the capacitors? Oscilloscope for the circuit?

The machine is an AMR MCR 4 made by Peavey back in the late 80s.

Anyone know someone around the Pgh. area who owns a decent, calibrated, tube tester? If I were able to use it I would provide suitable recompense.
