Nice...  I am sure it sounds good...  maybe you can put to use those old ikea speaker stands I originally got with the Spicas to redirect sound from the speakers to ear level,  they are in the free stuff pile somewhere at Tom's store (he may not know it,  I just walk in and drop stuff off while he seats at the altar tracking ebay auctions).   That stand is nice!   Was that a recent acquisition?

I've had the stand for a while. I picked it up on CL for $20, I believe. Well, Al picked it up for me. I'd love to give a set of shorter stands a try. I'll hit Tom up about those. Considering the fact that my study is 9 x 12, this little system doesn't sound bad at all.

Those Dual tables with the ULM (ultra low mass) arms are surprisingly decent.   I gave one away not too long ago.   Sounded better than I thought it would.

Yeah. It's definitely an ULM table. I just don't have a good stylus for the sucker.

It will take any Ortofon ON stylus.   The 10 can be had fairly inexpensively.

I am pretty sure there's an AT on there now. I'll have to check when I'm feeling more ambitious.

I'd really like to pick up a better TT for that system at some point.

The AT won't be as good a match for that pencil thin arm.   Try an old Ortofon before you give up on it.   Yes, it is a plastic plinth, but that direct drive motor is rock solid and I find the table to be very musical.   I would have experimented with putty in a couple spots to deaden the plinth, but I gave it away first.   It's current owner is quite happy with it.

BTW, that was a typo in my last post, it should say "any OM", not ON.

Of course you can upgrade, but you'll have to spend a lot of money to do as well new.

I didn't plan on keeping the AT on there. The stylus is mangled, actually, it's the cantilever. 

Those who know me know that I'm a Grado guy. I might try a Blue out on it. I've got a Grado Gold on my Yamaha YP-450. It's a heavy TT with a heavy platter and a low mass arm. The Grados are fairly high compliance, if memory serves me well. Maybe it'd be a match with my Dual?

Thanks for the protractor link. I've been on VE for a while now. The protractor has come in handy quite a few times. 

If I did upgrade, I wouldn't upgrade new. I'm on a used TT budget!

I'm not referring to the standard baerwald protractor at VE.   What  am saying is that if you d/l the manual there is a Dual specific drawing in the manual.   No measuring at all.   Easy and accurate.

I love Grado phones, but I wouldn't put a Blue of that arm.   The low mass won't be a great math and with a DD you may encounter the "Grado hum".   I will be curious to see how it turns out.

The OM just looks right on there.   Highly scientific, I know.

Yes Mike, in fact, it is. I was able to wheel and deal him down on everything. 

I'll be picking up some JBL 630's tomorrow. We'll see how the Onkyo does pushing a 4 ohm load!

I finally got around to A/B'ing the JBL's vs the American Monitors. I'm going with the JBL's. They don't go as deep, they don't have the midrange presence that the 12XP's do, but, they have a better soundstage and are ultimately brighter. I like brighter. The American Monitors are probably a better overall speaker than the JBL 630s, but, personal taste is a funny thing.

Of course, the Sanyo TT is also a nice upgrade from the Dual as well.
