I now have the Harman Kardon 430 I bought from here on the last charity action hooked to Def Tec 1000 speakers
http://www.definitivetech.com/Products/products.aspx?path=Bookshelf%20Speakers&productid=ProMonitor%201000 and a Def Tec sub
http://www.definitivetech.com/Products/products.aspx?path=Subwoofers&productid=SuperCube%20III . I use that to watch movies from my bed on a swing arm computer monitor. I have good TVs, but do most of my video watching there after midnight. The sound is off the charts for a small system, and the HK 430 is so beautiful at night that it almost makes me wet the bed.
Thanks guys. When I bid on this, I was just trying to help out. Now it is a piece I will never let go of. The sound is crisp and clear and perfect for video. It is not 5.1 or anything, but various sounds seem to pop up all over the room and even surprise my Beagle as sometimes they seem to come from another room. Actually, I have 2 Carver 5 channel amps in the closet, but like this set up better.
I won this for $75 but sent a hundred as I felt guilty about it. It is so good, I now feel like like a thief yet again.
It leads me to believe that some of the best value in audio might lie in some of these classic receivers if we are looking for sound as opposed to horsepower.
