Just a dabbler
« on: April 22, 2013, 09:59:08 AM »
Rolled into the shop last week to gaze upon all the glorious gear.  Nice to meet the coven, hope to make a party or two in the future.  Been nursing an old favorite system and more actively building the newer home theater setup.  Dropped my sub to Stereophile a loooong time ago, but still get a tingle in my testes upon occasional ribbon and tube sightings.
Next on the list:  Upgrade Oppo and bigger boom (Sunfire?) for system II, descent CD drive for system I.  Dust off and plug in old cheap turntable in the attic?
Revisit old dreams:  Krell amp, Apogees, inner ear transplants
Peace, love, and sweet sonics,
Ron

I: VTL Compact 80 monos, Mod Squad Line Drive, Acustat Spectra 11s, Sony DVD (yuck)
II: Onkyo TX-NR5008, Oppo BDP-93, DefTech BP-6B, C1, Mythos Gem XLs, Velodyne CT-100, Panasonic P65VT30

Welcome to the forum.

Recommend you stay away from tubes (and ribbons, for the matter).

They are addictive and expensive.   You will spend more and more time listening to music and ignoring your loved ones. It is like video games that way.  So walk away,  slowly.

Or just join the madhouse and enter hotel California knowingly.

I've always dug the Acoustats, but they're a bit cramped in the current room (only 10x12 with lots of furniture) and they don't shine like they used to in a bigger room.  I need to fall in love with them again like we did in the beginning, but until them I'm open to new relationships.   :P

Welcome.  Tubes or transistors, it's all addictive.  Since we all buy each others stuff, it's actually worse.
Mac stuff, Sony HDR-F1HD AM/FM/HD tuner, Denon DRS 810 cassette, Denon CDR-W1500 CD recorder, Music Hall MMF-9 w/B&O MMC2, B & O 4002 w/B & O 20 CL, Revox A-77

This hobby is crazy.  I switched houses just to get a bigger audio room.   I sometimes pause to ponder how messed up that is.  Then I turn up the volume and forget about it.  I moved 2 miles so I could make space for more electronic crap.  Redward,  walk away while you can. Otherwise,  see you at the meeting next Saturday.
