Billiard Balls
« on: June 08, 2013, 12:16:52 AM »
Do any of you guys know anything about Billiard Balls?   I am hosting a church missions yard sale, and one older gentleman brought three sets of pool balls.   One looks fairly run of the mill (I stickered them @ $20) but the other two look to be of a higher grade.   One in particular looks like it might be made of Bakelite or some similar material and I am guessing these are quite old.   At any rate, I think there may be better venues to sell these at than a yard sale, but I don't know the first thing about how to determine what we have here.   Any thoughts?   TIA.

Google is your friend:  http://www.ebay.com/sch/sis.html?_kw=RARE+VINTAGE+BILLIARD+SET+ARAMITH+BAKELITE+POOL+BALLS

Looks like they could bring anywhere from $30 to over $100 per set if the right type.

Oh, I searched eBay right away, but have no idea how to tell if I have the $20 or the $200 ones.

Or you could write a nice check to the church and your cost would be a tax deductible contribution. :)

Really what I am hoping is that someone here knows a local expert who maybe has a shop and might take a look at them.

Call West Penn Billiards.  They used to have a place on Babcock Blvd not far from Tom's place.  They now are located in Cranberry:  http://www.westpennbilliards.com/

Pool City also sells pool tables and billiards.  You might get lucky and find somebody who knows.  I would give West Penn a call.  Good luck!
