I need 4" cork discs
« on: July 01, 2013, 10:24:00 PM »
Does anyone know where I can find some 4" to 4 1/2" cork or similar discs?   I am currently using 3-3/4" cork coasters (this seems to be the common size) as label protectors when I hand clean old records, but they don't quite reach the edge of the label and I get a ring around the edge.   Usually it's not a problem, but once in a while some of the older labels are affected by the moisture.

If you see something that you think may work, let me know what and where.   Thanks.

Markshan.   I believe craft stores like Michael's and Pat Catan sell the stuff in small sheets

Loew's or Home Depot sell sheets of cork for shelving material.  They're usually 12" x 48" if not bigger.

I don't think the sheets are thick enough to hold their shape when clamped down around a record.   I use one for my turntable mat, works great for that.   Thanks though.

Reinforce with a disc of hard material. Maybe a large drink coaster

Don't know if this is helpful or not, but IKEA sells round cork "trivets" in sets of three. about a half inch thick.  I imagine they could be cut to size?

Does it have to be cork?  How about cutting down an old turntable mat?
