Looking for big cans... Sunfire Cinema Grand Signature Amp
« on: January 17, 2014, 04:29:35 PM »
Cosmetic shape is great,  original box, glass base, etc.

I think at a minimum I need to replace the power supply caps. Two 20,000 uF cans.  Top one is measuring 20.73,   lower one 18.93 m F.  It may benefit from a general health check from Tom and Anders.  Sound is not comparable to the 300 x 2 - yet, but will work on it.

For those keeping count that Peavey is the 5th active crossover I test.

Is it the 5 or 7 channel Pepe? Are you bi- amping channels?  ???
IN REALITY IT ONLY MATTERS WHAT IT SOUNDS LIKE TO YOU!!!!!

Hey King!  It is the 5 channel.  The idea is to use 4 channels to bi-amp the mid-high and bass towers separately.   But that will only be if it sounds like I remember the 300x2 sounding.  Otherwise I will have one bad ass  home theater amp with gobs of headroom.  I am taking it (well, Jim Pittsburgh is taking it actually - thanks Jim!) to Tom's tonight to get it back to spec - I can hear bad caps in the sound.  I built that cost into the $$ I paid for the amp,  so that is ok.  I have the PS Audio Delta 100 as a back up amp and may be buying Frank's Aragon 2004 as a backup amp as well.

Backups pieces seem to be a requirement in this vintage game,  as the stuff we use is near or well beyond mean-time-to-failure. I now have a back up preamp (Soundcraftsmen Pro Four) in case the C-19 fails or just so that I can mod the C-19.

Cheers,

CTD

The toroidal trans in the 400x7 is very purdy.  I see a fan to,  I guess the Bob ran into the limit of unassisted cooling.
