Pioneer rt-707
« on: March 14, 2014, 11:02:45 AM »
I got it out, ran it through basic functions, forward, reverse, play in both directions. Lights and meters work. I listened to play through headphones as I don't have time to hook it up to a system, and noticed a couple of "dropouts" now and then that were randomly in either channel - this could be from the tape that I grabbed out of the pile, but I don't know for sure.  visually the face is very nice, with a couple of small nicks on the plate that says "Pioneer", and the top has some glue residue. I noticed that the previous owner had wired a cooling fan inside the unit which you can definitely hear from a few feet away. It looks like it would be simple to remove. I would figure that this deck needs a basic maintenance and "going through"; also the heads visually look ok but I can't vouch for their condition. I also have a number of metal reels, a couple of blank tapes, and some recordings that the previous owner seems to have dubbed from records or classical radio. I downloaded the user manual. $200 as-is including the other stuff.

Congrats Pepe!

I really like my 707!  A solid unit that sounds great!  If it comes with an original Pioneer metal reel, that alone can be worth $50.  Good luck!

Thanks Geoff and Mark!

This is, I believe, my 5th 707.   I hope I can tweak it to good sound - when these Pioneers sound good, they sound really good.

Hey Carl...  I sold them all my 707s in sequence, in search for the right one. Then I bought a 909 that was real downer (not because of the 909 design,  but because that one in particular was all beat up) fixed it and sold it. Until recently Rev had one that was close to being in perfect shape (at the edge, maybe one channel recorded and.or played back hotter - but it sounded amazing). He sold it after he got the Revox. The bass in the 707 he had was excellent. Hoping this one can match it.
