Okay, the unit is a Magnavox CDB-496. Because of the cartridge changer, this thing is far more cyphered together than I care to deal with. I did not find a TDA 1543 or 1541, but I didn't find anything I could positively ID as the DAC. I also can not say if it is a Philips transport (I was too afraid that if I took it apart it was never going back together again), but I can tell you that almost everything in it is labeled Philips.
What I did find in my Google search was this thread at AK about the CDB-492.
http://mail.audiokarma.net/forums/showthread.php?t=393811That unit sure looks like it would be the single disc version of what I have, so I would think there to be a certain likelihood that they would use the same chipset, but who knows. It has the 1543 and the Philips laser.
I think my plan is to put this in my next Pepe stash. If you can turn it into something wonderful, have at it. If not, we can put it in a give away system. At the very least, it sounds like the three red things in the back will be of use to you.
You know, I used to spend my Monday evenings doing normal things like playing with the kids or watching TV. Now I get screwdrivers, magnifying lenses and the internet and try to ID components. I am diseased and I blame all of you.
