Great player Mark. I think I owned one of its earlier brothers.  SACD, DVD-A, and a decent DAC inside.  And 5.1 channel analog out.

I've owned a 980 for maybe ten years, still going strong. About a year ago wife left it on for days with a dvd in it. Would no longer spin, I little deoxit and it still runs.

I already own one.   There is a firmware patch that allows it to do even more.   This will be in the main system, the other is in the TV room.

There are firmware hacks to let you remove the region code,  I have not done on it mine cuz I don't have any Mexican DVDs to play.   If I ever do (or if I were Mexican) maybe it would make sense.    ;D

There are more hacks than that.   Google PS3SACD.   This unit also plays through DVD-A watermarks.

I totally forgot to come back and tell Todd thanks.   Turns out he actually had the 980, not the 970 he listed.   So I got a better, newer player for that price.   He was also kind enough to burn me CDs of a couple acts he likes and wanted to share.   Though the meeting was brief, it was a real pleasure.
