The weather, and it's effect on sound

It's wet, its muggy and my beloved system sounds like the weather outside oh; did i mention it's wet?

  I could get techical and really try to impress you guys but why bother when basically, ... my room sounds like the inside of a jar full of mayonaisse.

What's your take and the ambient weather and how your system sounds?

When it's sunny and warm, my system doesn't sound so good, fishing or mountain biking sound much better.

When it's ugly and grey or unbearably cold, it sounds better than most other options!

My guess is that the driver's cones are absorbing moisture from the humid air. This would make them more massive and lower their resonant frequency and change the way they sound. Of course this would not apply to most plastic or metal cones.

Another contributing factor could be that the moisture laden air is heavier and changes the characteristics of the propagation of sound. The speed of sound through humid air is different than that of drier, lighter air.

Weather conditions can affect sound.....but if you are hearing major changes in sound quality, I'd start swapping out components (speakers, amps, preamps, sources) until the culprit is found.

I never really noticed a sound difference due to weather.  Though that is interesting.

I can see humidity affecting speakers, and maybe even components, but it would have to be *really* humid.  Plus, if you're in a climate-controlled house (heat or A/C)...I wouldn't think that the weather would have any adverse affects.  I could be wrong though - it's happened before!
