Was there a rumor about Jerry's closing?

It was a false rumor spread by bored housewives.  He is retiring and leaving the store to one of his employees to manage,  so that the tradition may continue.  He sees the store as his legacy.

Well, in fairness he misplayed closing the singles section of the shop and firing the one employee.   He should have known that the bored housewives would talk about it and maybe even start a shop of their own.   I say that being a Jerry fan and wanting only the best for him.   We all make mistakes.

Nice!  I found myself working back through the Coltrane catalog this weekend, semi-chronologically.  Such amazing evolution he had from the end of his Davis/Davis band personnel era into his own band leading days with his own hand picked personnel.  Even if I'm not the biggest fan of the direction his search took him in the end, hearing it unfold is an enlightening experience and you gotta give props to an artist who really followed his own course.

Yes, Blue Train fairly tame stuff but was his only title for Blue  Note, so it has that aura.  Also listened to Newport '63' CD which has a fourth track from 1961 village vanguard with Eric  Dolphy.

I've been working my way thru the miles LP by LP thread on the Hoffman forum.  Currently at early Prestige period, which I have on the "Chronicle" cd box set.

I will have to stop by sometime.

This is a compilation of great modern jazz recordings of female singers by NPR (I guess as a reward for the $10/level or something)  - great to play after listening to an entire CD of crappy Stan Kenton recordings from the late 50s (I like the music,  the recording setup seems to mostly suck with what he produced in the 50s) - your equipment will sound magical.

I really can't stand Stan Kenton.

I have one good vinyl of a live concert at Purdue University where he plays a great version of Artistry in Rhythm.   He was obsessed with large orchestras,  that did not help him economically,  what with the scary payroll after concerts.

If I would have known you were into Kenton I would have given you some from my jazz score find.
