I think we should have a 2nd round for the folks who couldn't make it.

I'd like to enter my DX 708. Something tells me it won't beat Ron's 80, however. :)

I think some voted with their emotions when it came to the sound portion of the ratings.
We should conduct a blind test next time.

Not sure the shop's listening room follows the golden rule dimensions either.  Certainly enough diffusion surfaces though.   ;D

Tom wasn't really talking smack. I was just trying to get him amped up a little.

I would not mind listening to SD's 708 against anything else. It sure sounded great last time.

If the rest of the crew agrees to a round II, I'll surely bring it up. I really wanted to come that weekend and enter it in the shootout, but I had way too much to get done. I'd like to see how it compares to the others. It's got some features that other players don't have. Other than having separate transformers for the digital and analog circuits, it's completely lined with copper, and it uses something called "Opto-Coupling" as the digital to analog interface. Apparently the processed signal travels from the digital side to the analog circuitry via an optical interface, ie, the two circuits are absolutely isolated.

Talk everyone into having a round II, Pepe!

I got a Carver PDR-10 I would put up against anything... Made for Carver by Philips in the early 90's, cost several thousand dollars!!!
It is a CD recorder, weight of about 35 lbs...

The sound is excellent, and build quality is second to none.

Its all just subjective opinions anyway.  :D :D

One mans trash, is another mans treasure.  ::) ::) ::) ::)

As far as the PDR-10 being better then the Emo, considering its cost it should be.  The PDR-10 cost thousands of dollars in the early 90's, the Emo cost $400.00 in 2010.. That is a huge difference..  I will have to do some further listening to form my own subjective opinion..  ;D ;D

Only issue with that rational is that the cost/performance of the DACs, OPAMPs, Clocks, MCUs, Laser Diodes, and other chips has dramatically improved over the last 2 decades. In the early 90s a 24bit/192ksps DAC would have cost hundreds of dollars now they are <$5.
