Dual 1219 turntable
« on: December 31, 2010, 05:43:31 PM »
Hey Guys,

Anyone familiar with this idler wheel driven TT?  Are they a good vintage TT?  I found one today that is missing the original cover and I think the stylus is shot.  How much might it be worth assuming everything else checks out good?

Here's a link to what they look like.

Those are good looking units...Listened to quite a few in my youth. They still appeal to me although I'm not sure of the quality or durability.
IN REALITY IT ONLY MATTERS WHAT IT SOUNDS LIKE TO YOU!!!!!

I found my dad's old Elac Mirrachord which is very similar.

You can see it sitting here second picture down:

I think they are cool as heck, but, I have no idea what kind of cartridge or tone arm you can get for them.

I'd love to see a way to refresh mine. I don't think they compete with anything made these days.

Scott,

I might have a parts unit.  If you decide to mess with it, let me know.

Dale, do you have a cover that is good shape for this TT?

I bought one of these recently for cheap but ending up parting it out because it was in pretty bad shape. I have a platter and plinth up for grabs if you want it. The plinth needs new feet but is good otherwise.

The platter and plinth are in good shape on this one.  The original dust cover is missing.

Appears the start/stop lever is stripped too.  The shaft is splined and the lever is not engaging the splines.  lever appears to be aluminum, so could be easily stripped.

I don't know the internals of the 1219, but from my experience working on other Duals, I'll tell you this... If you open that puppy up and start tinkering, be careful and draw diagrams. The mechanisms on those things sometimes consist of overly-elaborate systems of levers, springs, cogs, and the like.

I know the 1219's were indeed an idler wheel configuration with a 4-point gimbal tone arm. It's a good idea to keep that idler wheel clean to avoid Wow & Flutter issues, and to not introduce any additional rumble. I don't think the rumble on these things was bad at all to begin with.

You should throw up some pictures.

Your 1219 might need to be greased up. The one I had sat unused for many years and the grease gummed up and it was stuck on 78 rpm. If your levers are indeed bad, I have a set currently listed on that auction site ending in about a day.

I could not find you levers on eBay.  Please send a link.

Eric,

I was able to repair the lever with gorilla glue.

What condition is the plinth in you have for a 1219?  I just noticed a piece of veneer is missing from the one I have.

sorry for the late reply. My plinth is in decent shape but has two broken feet.
