I know this turntable is nothing special, but, I just polished it up and had to take a couple of pictures of it.  Tomorrow, I am buffing out the cover which is in good shape.  Nick

Nothing special, sure. I've got a YP-450 that sings with a Grado gold.

They might not be "special", but they surely don't suck either.  ;D ;D

I am confident that an SL-1200 is capable of outperforming turntables of much higher expense with minor modification.

SD, funny that you mentioned this.  My next question was going to be:  I have a pair of Phoenix gold or Monster car stereo rca cables with the remote lead.  This was a $50 cable back in the 90's fully shielded and gold rca's, I was going to cut it and replace the junk cable that is on this unit.  Is this worth the effort?  Is there any risks?  Thanks, Nick

Yes. It's worth it.

There are always risks. You can always end up melting away the tonearm wires. To help avoid this, use a low-wattage iron.

If the new interconnects are shielded, make sure you ground the shielding.

Depending on how well you can solder and such, I'd say go for it. You'll also probably have to modify some of the internal bracing or componentry to accommodate the larger diameter cabling.

I have two Yamaha YP-B4 in excellent condition and both have the same problem which is the tonearms creak or squeak when they start to move toward the LP. The noise stops once they have reached the LP. I imagine that it's a lubrication problem. Can someone advise me as to what to use and where do I use it?
