Pro-Ject Debut III turntable
« on: June 05, 2011, 02:16:51 PM »
My brother bought this last year and never used it, he's using my old luxman instead.  He asked me to sell this for him.  It is a Pro-ject Debut III turntable.  Ortofon OM5E moving magnet cartridge.  Black in color.  Hinged dust cover included. Not a scratch on it.  I setup the anti-skating weight, aligned the cartridge and played a few records through it, otherwise it is brand new.  He payed $369 on line.  First $200 gets it.

Looks like a good deal.

TTs have taken on a new role these days as people rebel at the digital sound.
TTs used to just play records.
These days they have apparently been transformed into musical instruments.

If you have a decent system, a decent TT can be a good buy, and the value is headed up for resale.
A good TT needs good equipment or it is money wasted.

I have an old Pioneer with a Shure Cart that sounds incredible - it is not for sale as I need it to play my not so perfect records.

I have a better one for other records.  Top end carts go for 20K.  You might not need that, but don't buy a TT until you consider it into the price.    A good buy might be one the previous owner has already worked that out for you. The cart in a used table means just as much as the table.

I use my two most days.
I also have a lot of Lps.

If any of the above is you or not you, adjust your TT purchase accordingly.

There are bargains to be had on both ends.

Factor this in ---

When you get everything perfect and invite your honey over --

Just when you are in the sack and making your move, it will be time to jump up and turn the record over --   ;D ;D ;D ;D

Sure used to make a product called a Saftey Raiser.  It attached to the table and when the tonearm started into the run out grove, it hit the raiser, tripping a hydralic piston that lifted the arm/cart off the record.  No need to interrupt your move.  I wish I could find another one, or anything like it.  They were about $15 in the '70's
Mac stuff, Sony HDR-F1HD AM/FM/HD tuner, Denon DRS 810 cassette, Denon CDR-W1500 CD recorder, Music Hall MMF-9 w/B&O MMC2, B & O 4002 w/B & O 20 CL, Revox A-77

I once did an A-B comparison between having sex and listening to a good record on my best stereo.
The stereo was just slightly better than having sex.

If I remember correctly the Project turntables were imported by Sumiko and they were a very good turntable for a low-ish price.

Correct Anders as usual.  Sumiko is noted in the paperwork.  I'm actually impressed with the sound from it.  With a nice cart i'm sure it would sing.  It might be entry level but it's a very nice TT.
