New Turntable

I recently scored a Ariston RD-40 Turntable. I guess it was a Scottish manufacturer that has some link to Linn. I'm not sure of the whole story. It's cast aluminum and the base is 2 floating sections that are held together by 3 aluminum shocks. It's belt driven with 2 speeds and a solid platter. At the same time I found a Rabco SL-8e tonearm. I've always loved linear tonearms and have been fascinated with this one in particular. It's still not completely done yet but almost. Can't wait to give it a try!

Ryan.
The Ariston is a very nice turntable, should work well with the Rabco tone arm, what cartridge are you using?
Let us all know your opinion when setup is complete.
Brian.

You're putting this in the auction, right?
Awesome score. I will have to come over to listen to this sucker when it's fully functional again.

Thanks everyone. I'm almost done setting it up and should have it up and running in a few hours. To answer your question schwarcw, it is heavy but not a solid base. I attached a picture from vinyl engine showing it in pieces. BrianT, i'm using a Grado G1 cartridge.

Table sounds awesome but the main tonearm motor isn't engaging. It will play to the point the tonearm can't go any further to the right and that's it. Bummer. So either the motor is bad, the sensor is bad/needs cleaned or something is wrong with how it clamps to the drive chain. Looks like I still have some work to do.

It's almost done. I'll give my sound reviews soon. All I can say is this has been a learning experience. The tonearm is a monster to repair and setup but it's been well worth it. It's giving me a chance to check out the new River Current phono cables as well.
