That absinthe is strong stuff. 68% ABV!

Aside from the alcohol content, the flavor itself so concentrated that you have to dilute it with water. Even then it is still quite breathtaking.

Maybe I'll bring it to the shop tonight  ::)

I brought the bottle of La Fee down to the Shop last night to give folks an opportunity to sample the green fairy.

Interestingly, The Reverend already has some experience with Absinthe.
While Absinthe was under prohibition, he made some himself by obtaining an extract that can be mixed into regular alcohol.

Those who have tried it, please do tell. What are your thoughts about this legendary drink?

Brought a bottle of absinthe back from Europe quite a few years ago.  Think there is still only 1-2 shots missing out of it.

I can certainly understand that. It is an extreme drink.
Are you familiar with how to prepare it for drinking? It should not be served straight from the bottle...

Out of curiosity, what distillery was it produced from and how old is it?

Fwiw, if anyone is curious about the music on the video I used Soundhound on my Droid to find it..

Title: Navegando
Artist: Lenny Ibizare
Album: Obsession Lounge

If you go hunting that track down, I must warn you there are vocals in the original recording that were edited out in the video.
I can understand why the person removed them though, I sort of wish they weren't there myself.
At least it explains why there are skips and jumps in the audio track of the video. I thought that was kindof odd.

It tasted like shit!  I poured it over a sugar cube into water and ice.  It had a strong jolt to increase my heart rate plus the alcohol punch left me feelling not all that great.

The goodstuff has the wormwood in it.  But I don't think any of the imported domestic varieties have it.  Supposed to have hallucinogenic affects???

Absinthe is permitted to be distilled with Wormwood in the US. The bottle I got while in Maryland says it does on the bottle.

This site http://www.oxygenee.com/absinthe-america/legalization.html states that in the US the Thujone content (which is a compound extracted from Wormwood) cannot exceed 10PPM.

It sounds like you may have prepared it incorrectly though(see the video I attached to confirm), However I don't think it would have made much difference.
It sure does pack quite a punch!  :P

There are no Hallucinogenic qualities in Absinthe. That is a rumor.
From my understanding, The effect that many feel with it is a sense of clarity despite being intoxicated.
I have not tried drinking more than one glass to achieve that state.

Do you remember what kind of absinthe it was that you tried?

Yeah, it sounds like you did it backwards schwarcw.  Same results though.  There are many types of Absinthe.  Most are premixed but some that you need to add vodka/spirits too.  There is a big difference in the European versions, especially the French brands, as compared to other countries or the USA.

I will disagree with MB a little in that it does have some Hallucinogenic qualities that are equivalent to mild mushrooms.  If you take enough you will "trip" slightly but the mental clarity is there.  My friends and I have had multiple sessions with it and can attest to that.

Of course if you get the not so great absinthe you will probably end up drunk more then anything.  Most absinthe's are supposed to be 100+ proof.  But if you have the good stuff like SD has, several drinks, each containing one shot, will give you desired effect.

YES!  I described it incorrectly.  I must have been drinking some.  You could never disolve the sugar with a shot of the green fairy.  It still tasted like shit to me.  Much better stuff to drink!  Like Diet Coke with Lime! :P

Tom,

Just saw your questions.  Here are the answers: Probably not, don't know and don't know.  Am traveling this week so can't check the bottle.
