Personally, I've heard CD copies made from vinyl LPs & there is NO DIFFERENCE.  Which leads me to believe they aren't taking the care to manufacture CDs like vinyl is done.

Years ago, I realized I could make a cassette tape myself from LP that was MILES ahead of the pre-recorded cassettes.  I'm certain it's a similar situation with the CD/LP debate.

I agree with you Rabbit.  CD's can sound very good as long as they are made well.  Just like there are different levels of LP's, CD's and Tapes can sound good if they are done right.

Agreed - a lot of it depends on how well the album was engineered and produced.  You can have the most expensive gear in town, but if the music was produced badly, it's still going to sound like ass.

While I appreciate the authors emotional attachment to vinyl records, nowhere does he mention it sounds better because it's analog!

Watch that youtube video that i copied the link to.
Cd is a limited format and not really meant for true hi-fi.
SACD is closer but its dead.
Killed off like Beta.
My CD-R copies of LPs sound close to the LP but not the same.
LP is better.

I don't know if this is the link Anders was referring to, but it is important for people who love good sound to understand this...

Agreed this is important, but it's about dynamic range and compression and holds true for digital or analog (LP or CD).  It's always been a problem with commercial broadcast TV audio.

I was talking about the youtube link that includes Michael Fremer.
He had a turntable there to compare with CD and SACD and also there were record engineers talking about the state of the record industry as well as many other interesting topics.

This one:

There's a YouTube video with Michael Fremer and a bunch of recording (mastering) engineers comparing vinyl to CD to SACD.
They all say CD sucks and SACD is OK but you can actually hear how much better the vinyl is.

I have a DVD/SACD player which is a high-end Sony but I have very few SACDs.

That link runs 21/2 hours!  I'll have to catch it another time.
