Silver Sevens Capacitor Change
« on: April 15, 2012, 06:03:50 PM »
My set of Silver Seven's developed a loud pop (really loud) when I turned the amp off.
Even with the the level control turned all the way down and the pre amp turned off.

As I did not want to damage my speakers, I had to get it taken care off ASAP. Quick phone call to Bob Carver.
Bob gave me a couple of things to check out, one of them was a couple of caps that ground out the 660vdc B+ line.

So after checking them I found one was weak, time to change the caps. There are 3 of these caps in each amp so I ordered
6 x Jensen Audio Grade 47uf 450vdc caps. ( originals where Mallory (date code Sept 1989) 50uf 450vdc)
Chris at Parts Connexion told me the slight difference in values would not matter.

Due to the large size of the case, it turned out to be a very easy job, 30 mins per mono block.

After a quick test, all works fine. No pop's now ;D ;D ;D

Look how nice those are under the skin. Are you good to go for another 20 years now?

Robin.

I am sure there are a couple more caps that will need changing, I will talk to Bob at CF12
and find out which ones.

How are the Cherries doing?

Wayne.

I'm embarrassed, looking at Tinpan's setup. My setup does not look anything as nice
I have 9 components pilled up on 2 target stands.

But just for you here we go.
