Vinyl Junkie from WV
« on: July 17, 2012, 09:14:42 AM »
Hey guys, my name is Shayne. I'm from the Parkersburg, WV area. I came up to Vintage Hi-fi over the weekend to check out some speakers and got turned on to the forum. Vintage Hi-fi is a great shop. The only place i've ever walked into where the first words from the owners mouth are "you want a beer?".  Drank a ice cold black and tan while spinning some of my vinyl and checking out my new speakers. Good times! I'll be back for sure. Shout out to Tom and Ron for the hospitality. I'm looking forward to lurking around on the forum and eventually coming to a gathering.

I'm 33 years old and have been involved in the audio hobby since about 1990. About 5 years ago I started collecting vinyl again and now i'm totally hooked on the "black crack". I come to Pittsburgh fairly often to scour the record stores and i'm constantly building and refining my collection. I've got a couple of systems set up in my home, i'll list the components.

Vinyl stuff:
VPI 16.5 cleaner
Pro-Ject Xpression III, AT440mla
Music Hall MMF 5, AT440mla

Amps:
Emotiva USP-1 - preamp
Emotiva XPA-2 power
Onkyo A-9555, class d
Sony ES, GX57

Speakers:
Magnepan 1.6qr
Wharfedale Diamond 9.6
DCM TF250
Serpent Sound Low Blow 12" sub
Serpent Sound Super 8 Sub

Misc:
Sansui se-7 eq
Nakamichi cd player

Welcome!
I am confident that an SL-1200 is capable of outperforming turntables of much higher expense with minor modification.

Actually bmwr75, I don't own them yet. FedEx has them, they are on their way to my house. I'm very familiar with the Emotiva stuff. I have a good friend that has an Emotiva rig. It's an incredible bargain with excellent build quality and warranty to match. Very excited to get these. I need a new audio rack in the worse way.

I am a fellow vinyl junkie and lover of the AT440MLa.   I have mine on a JVC QL-A7.   It totally rocks.

Welcome Shayne!

I am a vinyl junkie.  I love the VPI 16.5.  I have an old school Yamaha with a modded Denon 103R.  I love the sound of vinyl.

Welcome again!
Carl

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome.

Welcome aboard Shayne.

Emotiva is a love/hate thing. A lot of people like to talk trash about it but if you need big power on a tight budget you can't beat it. It's solid gear from experience. Also, they back it up with a fantastic warranty, 5 years transferrable. I may eventually upgrade the Emotiva pre to something nicer but i really want to start saving for a turntable upgrade.

That's cool. When do you get back? We've got a little group of audio enthusiasts brewing here in town. We regularly rotate listening venues, everyone is upgrading gear right now. Things are getting interesting.

I believe the AT440mla is tough to beat at any price. It's a little cold compared to Denon and higher end MC stuff, but it tracks like a champ and basically eliminates inner groove distortion. I'm very sensitive to distortion on records and I went through a few cartridges til I settled on the 440.
