Grado Reference Sonata 1 Unboxing
« on: April 06, 2013, 03:51:27 PM »
Playing with the new Grado cart, purchased at the Grado dealer in Babcock Blvd, Pittsburgh.  Sounds VERY friggin nice.  Gives the Denon DL-101 a run for its money. The original Rega Bias 2 rates the equivalent of a ceramic cartridge by comparison.

Note that I had to use "shims" (i.e., washers - I am not paying Rega more money for stuff they should include free in a $600 turntable) to get the VTA correct.  But I got it done, after unscrewing the three gypsum-board-type phillips screws that hold the arm to the pressed-wood base.

Great cart,  but I would it expect it to be so for the $$$.

I put a reference on a Linn LP-12 for a guy I know.
VTA is easy to adjust on a Linn.

Canon G12 takes great macro pics.

It sure does!  I can see all the dust!  LOL!

Pepe, you have taken some fantastic photos the past few years.  I need to get my ass back into photography.  My problem is that I am addicted to heavy vinyl.

Thanks!

The photography hobby can get very expensive with not as high return on fun as audio and vinyl.  The kit I had 6 years ago included a Canond 5D body with several Canon L lenses - 100-400mm, 70-200mm, 17-40mm, a 50mm f1.4.  At some point I realized that I was hauling around 30 pounds of $10K in camera equipment and not getting $10K of fun out of it.

If you get back I recommend a small point and shoot like the G12 or Fuji X-100 and avoiding the SLR addiction.  I was in a constant hunt for the lens with the perfect warmth - bla bla bla - driving long distances to buy them cheap.  Then I realized the other people were using their time to take better pictures,  so I sold everything and got a point and shoot and focused on learning to use it well.

My advice,  for what it is worth.  But thanks for praising the flickas.

Pepe
