Kenwood KR-9050 for sale
« on: August 01, 2013, 04:26:48 PM »
I recently discovered my Kenwood KR-9050 receiver was worth some money! It is in great vintage cosmetic condition but it is not working. I currently have it at an audio shop in Columbus, OH where they are doing diagnostic work on it. I am not expecting to hear back from them for a couple weeks but I wanted to see if there was any interest out there. I will be in Pittsburgh shortly (that's where I am from) and can deliver it to you. I can sell it as is or get it fixed and sell it (obviously will be more expensive). I'm not exactly sure what I would like to get out of it but one just sold this week on ebay for $1300.

GLWTS

I let mine go recently in the $600 range to a local fellow.  It was in near pristine condition and working perfectly except for one burned out bulb.

Yeah, that $1300 one your mention on ebay smells like a scam.  More than double of what they are currently going for?

Make sure to introduce yourself in the welcome section and pictures are always a good idea.

I don't think it was a scam...here is the link:

I talked to the seller he said the transaction went smoothly. I don't know too much about the system. Is it possible his was an upgraded version?

Also, I am working on getting pictures up here. As I said, it is currently being looked at so I do not have it with me.

Yikes.

$1300 for that 9050 is a bit on the outrageous side.

You can get some serious gear for that kind of cash.

Welcome to the Forum!

It looks like the sale was legitimate, however I think you'll have a hard time having buyers line up for that kind of money.  Try your luck at eBay if you are looking for top dollar.  Good luck with the sale!

Agree wit the others,  no one in this forum will be interested at that price.  $400-500 perhaps,  and that assumes beautiful cosmetic shape and operating well.  But...  price is a matter of what the buyer wants.  If you can reach a large number of buyers through ebay and find one that collects Kenwood and needs that model specifically,  you could make some money.  Fix it and place the ad as 'Buy it Now or Best Offer" with "good until canceled" - eventually someone will pop up (perhaps a Hollywood movie wants one as a period piece, who knows...).

This is more realistic:  http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Kenwood-KR-9050-Reciever-The-Big-Kahuna-/181179571431?pt=Vintage_Electronics_R2&hash=item2a2f24dce7

Now, if you happen to have a pristine Pioneer SX-1980 lying around in your attic,  now we are talking $1,300   :P

Do you have any old metal cassette tapes you wish to sell?

Sadly, I do not have any old metal cassette tapes and I agree with what you are saying. If anyone is interested, please make an offer. You can email me directly at Derron2424@aol.com. Again, working on those pictures but may be hard until it is back from the shop.

I've now got Scott's KR-9050.  It's the best sounding vintage receiver I've listened to, no doubt.
