WTB speaker stands
« on: September 24, 2013, 10:29:02 AM »
I'm looking for a pair of speaker stands to put under the dq-20s which are about 60lbs@...  the stands need to be between 10" and 13" tall...   speaker bottom is 10.5" deep x 13.5" wide...

Don't care if they are boxes, pedestals or welded box tube types...  I can paint or refinish them as necessary...  open to suggestions or if something can be built for a reasonable cost...  have to be wife acceptable ....   not looking for fancy... plain and stable are good things lol
a bunch of nice sounding stuff. Nice that I'm finally able to actually listen to file music for the first time...

There's a guy in Irwin who makes stands.  If you do a search on ebay and filter the results to in the pittsburgh area, he has several pairs online now.  Someone on here might be able to point out his website address.

thanks... nice stuff... but $160 is a bit over the budget today.... will keep my eyes open for some used ones... maybe metal square tube....? keep me in mind if you see anything for a good price.

I found and ordered these to use for now, I figured that I can reinforce them with some scrap wood and mdf I have.... the size is almost perfect..

I found these (see below) at Home Depot... they are horrible junk, but are an exact fit on the width and within an 1" on the depth... I added some internal support... and I think they'll work out just fine for now! $20 each...  I swear they are made of card board and black vinyl tape... not even MDF lol

I'm still contemplating how I am going to cover the drivers in the DQ-20s since the original grills take up way too much space (height and width)...  once I figure that out, I'll integrate new / better bases somehow... looking at McNichols expanded flattened screen matterial http://www.mcnichols.com/products/expanded/     and also foam    http://foamspeakergrilles.com/
... open to suggestions.

Jim

DQ-20s are floorstanders aren't they?

I have two sets of wood pedestals that are about 10-12" high.  Both have a top plate that is tilted back slightly though.

The speakers in this ad a sitting on one of the pairs.

Jim, I thought you said you had a cabinet shop?   Surely stands are among the easier woodworking projects, no?

Top plate is 8.5" square

Bottom plate is 11" square

Overall height is 8.5" in front and 8" in back (top plate is tilted back slightly)

Wood looks like oak to me.

PM me if you are interested.

those would make very nice stands, but I need them at 12".. max 13 and there is no way to lower them and still keep them centered without changing the angle of the "Z"... which would be a lot of work....

No, I don't have a wood shop by any measure...  garage is more of a motorcycle maintanance shop and home repair than anything else.... wood working tools are limited to rough construction and what I can borrow from neighbors lol

I had you confused with Jim West PA from the AK board.   I tried to get him to sign up here.   Sorry.
