Hi Eric, Nice score.  I'm quite familiar with the A-1500.  If memory serves it is the auto reverse version of the A-1200.  I used to sell them while in high school working for Lafayette Radio Electronics.  I was about to buy the A-1200 when they introduced it's replacement, the A-1230.  I bought that directly through TEAC as a "salesman promotional unit" for half list price.  It sure was a great deal.  I bought it February 22, 1972 and it's still going strong.  Vintage Hifi did have to work on it about a year ago.  The pinch roller assembly has issues over the years where the lubricant dries up in the mechanism causing the pinch roller assembly to either lock up or move with much resistance.  This is the most common ailment of the A series TEACS.  Other wise they are quite solid and sound quite nice.  I'm curious what is wrong with it?  And yes Vintage Hifi does fix them.  If I can offer assistance in any way feel free to ask.  I have been heavy into reel to reel decks since 1970 and still going strong.  I now have 4 of them.

Papabear Im glad to know you are familiar with RTR's, because I know nothing at all about them. I might be needing your expertise as I try to get this thing up and running. Should be fun!

Wow, the RS-1500US is a pretty serious pro deck. If memory serves thats a 2 track recorder with extra quarter track playback heads. How much did you pay for it and what kind of shape is it in? Did you happen to get the dust cover, wired remote or any Technics branded reels? Those alone can fetch a pretty penny on eBay.

Oh now I starteing to get excited!

xm41,
I paid $20 cash for it. It appears to be in pretty good shape. No dust cover, or remote. It does have one black Technics reel. Now Im going back to see about more reels and remote! This guy might have them, the rtr was sitting in his garage and the whole place was full of junk.

Holy crap Eric.  $20!!!   what a bargain.  When you get it have all the 10uF coupling caps on the record/layback amp and meter circuit.  Apparently these are common leakers.  You might want to consider having VHOP align the heads as I understand they can be finicky as it's a pretty complicated head block.  How do the heads look?
Even if you have to put a few bucks into it to get it up to snuff it's still a bargain and a good solid performer.  I believe there is a switch on the head block cover to select between 1/4 track and 1/2 track for playback.  Let us know how it works out.

Plugged it in and everything seems to work including meter lights. Just need to clean it up, buy a take up reel and find a tape to run thru it. Im already thinking about putting and IEC plug in it and some better rca jacks. This occd seems to have no limits...lol.

I changed my forum name btw. Messed up and put my real name in while joining...lol

I want to buy a remote for my Otari, but I want the original,  not infrared, and my price is $70,  so it may be a few years before I score it...

I have an OEM wired remote for my Akai. The cable makes it a pain in the ass so I never use it.  Eventually I'd like to buy an infra red one for my ReVox B77.  Show me a link of the one you're looking at and I'll tell you what if anything I know about it.

That's the exact remote I was referring to.  They have an excellent reputation.  Unfortunately the price for the one you need is more than double what they normally are.  Based on his description he doesn't get much request for remotes for that deck.  On ebay he sells a ton for ReVox & TASCAM.  Of course a lot more of these decks were sold.  I know ReVox sold over 250,000 A77's alone and the guy has sold a lot of remotes on ebay for them.  The same remote you're looking at for the A77 sells on ebay for $79.99 and listing says he has 6 in stock.  Wow, the one for the ReVox B77 is $78.99 and he has 10 available.  That's the one I'd really like to buy.  Maybe you can ask the seller to keep your name on file for when he gets another request for the one you're looking at.  Maybe it would be cheaper that way.  Just a thought.
