Grado makes awesome cartridges right here in the USA and VHoP is a dealer. They do offer P-mount cartridges. My son (BJ) and I both bought Grado Gold1 standard mount cartridges for our ReVox turntable and are very happy with their performance. They are made for turntables compatible with high compliance cartridges.

Not sure if my Technics SL-D20 would be compatible?

PBJ is correct.

VHFP has Grado carts in P mount.

They are made for turntables compatible with high compliance cartridges.

I thought that p-mount was made to one standard and those issues weren't supposed to be relevant in p-mount design.

That is quite possible. I am pretty new at this and know fairly little about what i'm doing.

P mount refers to the type of mount and has nothing to do with the compliance off the stylus. The Grado Gold 1 is high compliance which makes it ideal for my ReVox tonearm. It has more to do with the mass of the tonearm. The ReVox linear tracking tonearm is only 1.5" and extremely low mass.

From Ortofon...

The P-mount has been designed for tonearms with T4P mounting sockets, the plug-in attachment system first introduced by Technics and adopted by Sony, JVC, Grundig and many other manufacturers.

The OMP model requires no change in mass for the simple reason, that its mass is precisely what is specified for tonearms with T4P mounts.

There is a difference between a tonearm designed for a p mount cartridge and a tonearm with a p mount adapter in a standard mount head shell. I wouldn't suggest using most Grado cartridges, p mount or not, in a Thorens TP-16 tonearm. With its large head shell and fairly high mass it need at least a medium compliant cartridge.
