Carver receiver/CD
« on: February 08, 2014, 08:31:33 AM »
An out of town friend wants to sell his Carver HR 772 receiver and Carver 5 disc CD player.  I am trying to help him get a sense for a fair price (for seller and buyer).  There is currently nothing similar on epay.  Does anyone know anything about this gears value?

MacGeek, Tom(OCCD) most certainly will know. Just give him some time to respond, or call him later this afternoon.

For what it's worth to your friend, I'd have a hard time parting with it, MacGeek. The equipment looks very nice from what I can tell from the pics and you probably know as well as I do that a few mods done by Tom and Anders would transform both of those components into something quite spectacular.

Just my thoughts on the matter. Take care of yourself MacGeek.------Bill

Which 5 disc changer?  SD/A-360 or SD/A-390?  Prices are quite a bit different.

The Receiver is probably in the neighborhood of $150-200 if everything works as it should.

The CD player is 5 disc unit, SD/A350.  Thanks.

I would guess $50 max for the CD player (this is not a tube buffer unit, I think), and $70-140 for the receiver.  These appear to be in very good cosmetic condition,  as someone else pointed out,  so not sure how much that changes the price for an OCCD patient.

The 772 is a very nice 140wpc receiver. Tuner is a bit lame. It replaced the MXR-150 in power class. Prices fluctuate constantly. They can go for as low as $150 and as much as $300, very clean  with remote and manual.

The CD player... there were actually three

SD/A-360   Garbage,  good for rack handles or to hold paper down. Where's the beef?

SD/A-350   Which that appears to be. Very nice well built unit.  Most can be snagged at a nice price due to a cheap cir clip that fails on the gear that moves the tray in and out.   I like these players.  broken  $50  working $150

SD/A-390t   Not related to either of the two listed above in any way other than the 1 bit DAC.   modded and stuffed with dullards or telefunkens...WOW!    Very nice if you don't mind the noise the carousel makes when loading discs.  Broken  $100   working depending on tubes  $500 plus

Ah, yes. Forgot about the 350.

I have had a 360 for over 16 years; works like a champ.
