The speakers are the elusive Sony SS-M7ES. I happened upon these by chance. Hard to find, but these are not high priced. These were desgned by a Polk engineer, all Danish components, Seas, Peerless, 1% film caps and 1 1/2 thick MDF. These things weigh about 70 lbs without stand. I have the original stand which can be filled with lead shot. A friend of mine owned them, I heard them and they became available in January.
A few of the Forum guys have heard these rgpit, bmwr75, gdv and non-prophet. These are hard not to like. They aren't the big Polks, which are undergoing an upgrade and taking a rest. These speakers sound amazing with jazz, classical and female vocals. They are not going to shake the house. But the open, wide soundstage, image and depth make them very compelling.
The limited edition (500 pair) Sony SS-M9ES version in gloss piano black sold in Japan for $16,000 a pair. There is an article in Stereophile about the SS-M9ES. Look here:
