Hand me down system for my son
« on: June 28, 2014, 04:19:35 PM »
I have a couple of McIntosh pieces that I had refurbished over the years and they spent some time in my listening rig.  I had these pieces set aside and had not played them in rotation for a year or more.  I decided they they should be heard and put to good use.  I gave them to my son to use in his apartment.

My son is 34 and was educated as a recording engineer.  He spent some time as an intern in the recording industry but could not make a viable living doing it.  He went back to school around 8 years ago, got some Microsoft certifications he is a network administrator for a large bank.  I had some exception audio equipment that I would rotate in and out of my system.  I could not see myself selling it but I wanted to put it o everyday use.  So I gave it to my son.  He can enjoy it a he loves music and always will.  I can "visit and play it" any time I please as he lives in Oakmont.   My McIntosh MX-110 and my MC 2105 can be seen in the pictures.  He has my Yamaha YP-801 turntable and my REL subwoofer.  The Sony SS-M7's are on loan to him by me also.

Good gear like this needs to be used everyday.  My son will make good use of these wonderful pieces.

Thanks Tom!  All parent think highly of their children.  All kids will test your limits, mine was no different.  But he turned out to be a wonderful young man.  Thanks for the kind words.

Regards,
Carl

I was really impressed with those speakers.   Good to see them staying in the family.

This was good for a healthy laugh!!!

Nice system, Carl.   I gave my daughter a pair for Boston A-60s that I refoamed as well as rack for her apartment setup.  They do appreciate it (once they pass a certain age.)

Feel good!  I miss that sub!  It was just a little too big.  The REL was a little smaller.  With my new Legacy's, I don't need a sub.   O0

A very nice thing to do for your son!  A very cool and beautiful system....

And I agree totally that systems/ equipment were meant to be used/ played...   Just like my bikes.... "ride'em don't polish 'em!"  lol
a bunch of nice sounding stuff. Nice that I'm finally able to actually listen to file music for the first time...
