Kabuki Sansui mids

My buddy and I split two pairs of Sansui 2700A's. I know no one likes them, but I do. Cleaned up the selector pots. Plug them in and they're ok, but will need recapped. While listening I sensed something not right. The mids weren't firing. Pulled them and tried them with a 9v battery. Nothing. I know two of them for certain are dead and I'm assuming his are as well, I'll be going to check that tonight.

The speakers are marked on the front DF-104, on the back S-127 5 ohm 60w.

These are sealed and I can't figure a way to open them up.

S333, a picture from the back might help...  One guess might be the "mid enclosure" might "screw" on/off...  Provide a pic or two of the back...

Do you leave your ketchup out and unrefrigerated?

A picture from the back would help.  The plastic cover may just be held on by internal spring clips.  They might pry off??

You don't?!?!? I have sensitive teeth and cold ketchup on hot food drives me nuts.

I've tried to pull and twist the back off. Won't budge. The screw on the bottom loosens some, but once I got it out about 1/4" inch it sounds like something inside may be turning with it.

Mucho dinero, he's got parts that cost more than a whole pair of working speakers go for. That was the only place I've found, I do plan to ask him if these can be opened somehow.

They're likely epoxied on, you may be able to apply heat to the seam there (hairdrier or low-temp heat gun) and see if you can get it loosened up, but there's a very good chance you're going to crack that sealed chamber in the process.

I don't know what that screw is holding on.  Did you try to pry the cover loose by slipping the head of a screwdriver under it?

Didn't try to pry yet. The pair I gave to my buddy both work. PE sells a 5 ohm mid, but $50 each. Yikes.

It is NOT a 5 Ohm, it's an 8. Lesson here is ketchup left out makes your eyesight bad.
