RT-I have never done digital, except for a single box CD player and so am interested in your DAC.  http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/ele/4814596127.html  If I understand things, I can use it with my CD players Coaxial out (S/P DIF) and computer or other digital device via the USB in.  What is the external device input?  It looks like it will accept the cable from my iphone.  Thanks,
