Way back when I got married in 1983 I had a Kenwood KR-9050 Receiver along with some EV speakers, Sansui Turntable and Teac Tape Deck. After getting married I let my wife talk me into getting rid of all that fine stuff because, you know 'What do you 'need' that stuff for'? When I sold the Kenwood to a friend, about a month later he told me he trashed it because he left it next to a window and there was a downpour. I was heartbroken!
Over the years I have had various receivers, amps, surround systems, etc but I missed the old days of having a nice stereo system. This week changes all that! I am now the proud owner of a Kenwood KR-9050 that I picked up on Ebay which was partially refurbished as follows:

- This powerful Kenwood KR 9050, Kenwoods Flagship, has been serviced and partially restored.
It is rated at 200 watts per side, but bench tested much higher.
Full face off cleaning with all switches and pots cleaned and serviced.
The power card was recapped, reflowed and flux was cleaned up.
The EQ section was removed, cleaned, and recapped.
The Amp section was partially recapped. The transistors tested fine and had been worked on before.
The speaker protection and overcurrent relays were cleaned and brandished.
The tuner section received some new caps and resistors.
It was also cleaned and dialed in. Tuning pulleys were all cleaned and lubed.
Replaced all the bad bulbs with original stock, including indicator lights.
Tested receiver for a week, running through all modes and variables.
Everything works great, with clean balanced power. All functions perform as they should.
The tuner locks and holds distant stations with a simple wire antenna.
The -20 db attenuator switch does not hold. It works, but doesn't stay depressed.
It is a button I never use, but I wanted to repair it. I just could not find a replacement.
The knobs on this were not great, so I covered them in brushed aluminum vinyl.
It can be removed easily if you don't like that look.
I did nothing with the wooden case and will leave that for the new owner.
I am not a wood finishing guy, and I know some like the stock, vintage look.
Along with the receiver I bought some V-MODO Crossfade M100 cans. My old AKG K340 cans had been through the ringer and since I don't have speakers (yet) for this receiver, I wanted some nice headphones to crank some tunes for now.
