Jim Pittsburgh new KEF Reference 5 speakers
« on: April 20, 2017, 02:54:38 PM »
Arrived yesterday afternoon. One of the cartons was torn completely open with the bottom of one speaker hanging out... thank goodness no damage that I could find or hear.
a bunch of nice sounding stuff. Nice that I'm finally able to actually listen to file music for the first time...

found an incredible deal on them ....  I'm just thrilled/ lucky to be able have them in my system. They are a whole 'nother level of performance from my Q900s  They really fill up my listening room.  Fabulous imaging and detail without sacrificing a flat response (which is the sound I like) ... and similar enough to the Qs that I don't "have to" lol  change anything else.  Have already been startled more than a few times upon hearing things in familiar albums that I didn't expect/ know were there. :-)   I moved the Q900s to the side surround position.... don't know if the DQ-20s will ever return hahaha

so far the biggest change I've noticed, besides the imaging and more realistic staging ( bigger sound stage) , is how articulate they are.... when listening to applause you hear much more of individual clapping ( if you understand what I mean), wire brushes on snare drums are amazing detailed. piano notes are much more individual as are stand up bass notes.... pretty cool.  Nice that these were "used" and are already pretty well broken in....

Watched/ listened to Rouge One on BluRay last night.... wow. The Q900s are much better than the DQ-20s as sound surrounds. Audibly its pretty obvious that all the drivers now have a much more similar "sound".

Can't wait for the matching center channel to arrive in a couple of weeks....  as good as the Q600 is, it's now the audible weak link.
